Music for Writing (or How To Survive NaNoWriMo)

NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) is upon us (well, not ME because November is a crazy busy month at our house). Sometimes writing a couple thousand words every single day of the month requires creating atmosphere. Writing to music is a great way to increase your word count—whether you’re doing NaNo or not.

To that end, here are some of my favorite YouTube videos and playlists for writing to. Some are good for general writing atmosphere, some are genre-specific. All (with one exception) are instrumental and lengthy.

My Absolute Favorite for General Writing

(Also works well for romance genres!)

Fantasy

DRAGONS!

(This one has words, but they’re in Gaelic. Unless you know Gaelic, it shouldn’t be too distracting.)

Science Fiction

What’s your favorite writing music? Do you prefer instrumental or can you write to music with lyrics?
